Department Profile:

Department of Botany established in the year 2011 with the efforts of Late Karmveer Shankarrao Kale (Ex. MLA), founder Chairman of Gautam Education Society. It is one of the well-furnished and equipped departments of Sau Sushilamai Kale Arts Commerce and Science College Gautamnagar running academic programmes at UG level with the support of three teachers providing a consultancy for identification of plants. The Department has good track record for UG results. Students are encouraged to take part in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like avishkar, conference and participate in competitions.

Under graduate courses are offered at first and second year students general streams with only Botany as special subject at third year level. There is one laboratory in the department for under graduate students. All the laboratory is well equipped with modern instruments purchased out of grants provided by Management. The department is enriched with learning resources such as charts, museum specimens, slides, models, herbarium and modern facilities like computers, internet, LCD which help the students in independent learning. The department has its own departmental library book collection for references and study notes for UG students

The students are encouraged by arranging botanical programs at college level like the botanical excursion are organized in view to study the wild plant diversity, forest ecosystem and to grasp  the research knowledge to the students. Collection for diverse specimens for algae, fungi, bryophytes etc. are collected and some are photographed by visiting Botanical collection spots and Agriculture University. The department arrange applied botanical program at college level for botany students like creating awareness among plants, conservation, new breed development through classical breeding program in crops like self-pollinating and cross pollinating plants, horticulture techniques like grafting, cuttings, propagation methods for students. The student are encouraged to develop their own job opportunity through development program like by arranging seminar, guest lecture etc. One of the program like at Gautam education society, bakery product by using baker yeast,  Gardening and landscaping etc. are program arranged for students  to develop job skills among them self.

Botanical garden is an attractive feature of the department in which different plantlets of decorative and attractive flowers and also horticultural plants are cultivated. The department also runs sugarcane nursery program under the guidance of Prof. Kale A.D, Prof. Ghorpade A.P, Prof. Nilkanth A.A and Agriculture officer of sugarcane factory at factory farms and has collaboration with NGO KSKSSK Kolpewadi
